Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has gone gold roughly a month before launch, with the developer working on further polish. There are doubtless other character trailers incoming (check out Maelle’s here) but new details continue to emerge, like the absence of a mini-map in the levels.
COO Francois Meurisse confirmed this to Eurogamer during an Xbox event at GDC 2025 and even provided a lore reason. “There won’t be mini-maps in the levels. When there’s a mini-map, you can end up relying on it. And we want players to discover the world as the expedition does it. They don’t have a map because every previous expedition failed. So yes, sometimes it can be difficult to find their way.”
Before you panic, there’s still a world map. Following the preview demo, Sandfall added a compass. “You can find north easily and get your direction more easily.” You can also view the entire world via an overview map.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launches on April 24th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC alongside Game Pass. The main story is over 30 hours long, though you can expect as much side content. The story follows the latest expedition from Lumière as they seek to slay the Paintress before she can further wipe out humanity. Check out some more extensive gameplay from the preview demo here.
