In the overview trailer for Elden Ring Nightreign, FromSoftware discussed “lost memories.” Players could collect these and learn more about the lore and backstories of the eight Nightfarers. In a new video by IGN First, the system is called Remembrances and goes beyond FromSoft’s usual approach to lore.

As players explore and uncover Remembrances, they may unlock new journal entries for their Nightfarer. However, they can also venture into separate playable sections and receive personal objectives. For example, the Ironeye must go to a specific location in Limveld and fight against a traitor, then deliver their letter to an NPC afterwards.

Meanwhile, the Raider’s Remembrances consist of 1v1 boss battles in a gladiatorial coliseum. How the other Nightfarers’ stories play out remains to be seen, but it’s a unique story-telling device.

Elden Ring Nightreign launches on May 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Check out some more gameplay focused on the Nightlord, Libra, which players can deal with before their battle at the risk of unknown effects.
