State of Play Peaked at 2.2 Million Concurrent Viewers

With this massive figure, the most recent State of Play has become the third most-watched gaming/tech showcase of the year.

Sony’s recent State of Play showcase was seemingly a huge success for the company. According to SteamCharts, the State of Play livestream had more than 2.2 million live viewers, making it the first time that one of Sony’s streams has been seen by so many concurrent viewers ever.

According to the figures released by SteamCharts, the State of Play, at its peak, had 2,257,132 concurrent viewers. The average concurrent viewers for the showcase came out to 1,918,406 viewers across more than a thousand different channels. On Twitch alone, the official PlayStation stream had the most concurrent viewers at the time, peaking at 741,789 viewers.

Going by data aggregates, the most recent State of Play is now the third most-watched livestream for a gaming or tech showcase in 2025 so far. It sits right behind the March 27 Nintendo Direct, which had 2.72 million peak concurrent viewers, and the Switch 2 showcase Nintendo Direct from April, which had 6.3 million viewers.

For some additional context, the second most-watched State of Play was the one from February 12 with 2.1 million peak concurrent viewers, which is followed by the one from January 2024 with 1.6 million viewers.

The recent State of Play showcase had a host of different game trailers, from Capcom’s Pragmata to a VR-only sequel to classic stealth franchise Thief. IO Interactive’s 007 First Light also got a 2026 release window, along with a trailer showing off its gameplay for the first time. Koei Tecmo even unveiled Nioh 3 during the showcase. Sony also took some time for itself to unveil its fight stick.
