Resident Evil 9, officially known as Resident Evil Requiem, has finally been announced after years of rumors. Launching on February 27th, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the sequel sees players returning to Raccoon City and seemingly controlling a new character: FBI agent Grace Ashcroft.

The connections to past titles are intriguing, especially since she’s the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Outbreak (never mind how significant Raccoon City is to the series). However, Capcom is also pushing the sequel’s technical aspects. In a press release, it noted that RE Engine will harness the “full power of modern consoles” to deliver “spine-chilling realism like never before.”

This includes “complex character details” like “lifelike facial expressions, realistic skin textures, and even high-fidelity sweat droplets.” The latter was visible in the trailer when Grace was strapped to a gurney after seemingly being operated on. And while players can expect the “deeply terrifying aspects of psychological horror” that the series is known for, there will also be “pulse-pounding action.”

However, one of the more intriguing aspects is how one must prepare to “escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core.” Perhaps a hint at the gameplay elements?

Resident Evil Requiem will receive more details throughout this year, including its first playable build for the public at Gamescom. Capcom also confirmed voiceovers and subtitles in English, Japanese, Italian, French, Latin American Spanish, and more, alongside subtitles in Korean, Arabic, Polish, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. Stay tuned for further details.
