With publisher 2K Games and developer Gearbox having recently revealed the $70 price tag for Borderlands 4 by opening up pre-orders across PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, studio CEO Randy Pitchford is celebrating by announcing that the title will feature “a TON of awesome DLC.”

In a social media post, Pitchford wrote about being excited about not having any paid early access for the upcoming co-op looter shooter, as well as the fact that the game will be sticking to its September 12 release date. He also celebrated the fact that the title will not cost $80.

“I am so stoked that Borderlands 4 is $69.99 and not $80,” wrote Pitchford. “I am so stoked we’re not doing any paid early access stuff and moved the date earlier to Sept 12. I am stoked that we are planning a TON of awesome DLC.”

In a post offering some follow-up, Pitchford also wrote about working out Gearbox’s plans for the post-launch DLC that will be coming to Borderlands 4. He has noted, however, that the studio has “lots of amazing plans” when it comes to extra content coming to the game both for free as well as paid releases.

“We are going to be working out our DLC plans as we land the game and can shift focus,” he wrote. “We already have lots of amazing plans in mind for a range of free and paid content post-launch.”

Earlier this week, the studio had revealed that the post-launch content plans for Borderlands 4 include the addition of new areas, playable Vault Hunters, as well as new story missions. This content is available for pre-order as part of the game’s $100 Deluxe Edition, which includes the Bounty Pack Bundle.

This bundle will bring with it new areas, along with missions and bosses, as well as new vehicles that players can use to get around the world. However, more details about this content haven’t yet been revealed. The $130 Super Deluxe Edition, on the other hand, will also include extra content as part of its Vault Hunter Pack, which includes additional Story Packs, complete with new regions and missions.

While all of these details regarding the title’s pricing, pre-orders and extra content have been revealed, Gearbox is still yet to confirm whether the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game – out on the same day as on every other platform – will also cost $70. Considering the new trend of Switch 2 titles costing $80, however, there is a chance that players on Nintendo’s console might have to pay extra to get their hands on the game.

Controversy around the price for Borderlands 4 was kicked off before the pricing details were revealed when Pitchford took to social media to talk about how “real fans” would find a way to buy the title regardless of its price. After facing some blowback on this, however, Pitchford eventually offered something resembling an apology in another post on social media.
