While we got to see a trailer for upcoming open-world action RPG Where Winds Meet just earlier this month, we now have a chance to look at some in-depth gameplay courtesy of IGN. The video gives us a thorough look at the open-world gameplay, combat and traversal.
One of the first things shown off in the video is the high-speed traversal where, keeping true to its Wuxia influences, players can sprint at super high speeds, float over bodies of water, and hop their way across the rooftops of different buildings. It is worth noting that the character seems to be of a relatively high level, which means that quite a few of the traversal options might need to be unlocked.
The video also gives us a look at some of the activities that players can partake in, be it by sitting down to catch a show at a street-side shadow theater, or even taking on sumo wrestlers with a minigame to help the player line up their pockets with more money.
Eventually, the player makes their way to an underground area where a fight breaks out. The player uses different weapons and takes on enemies with various special abilities. Generally speaking, the combat is quite fast-paced, especially when the player faces a group of weaker enemies.
Interestingly, we also get a glimpse of the game’s menus, which reveal that it will likely end up having quite a few methods of monetisation, including a shop, as well as a battle pass. There are also buttons meant to keep a track of what event might be going on in the game’s world, as well as a Draw button which indicates that Where Winds Meet might make use of a gacha-style system like in titles like Genshin Impact for some of its progression.
The menus also reveal that there will be ways to play the game in co-op, as well as a smattering of social options, including the ability to maintain a friends list, as well as join guilds and teams.
The trailer we got to see earlier this month focused more on the story of Where Winds Meet, with an emphasis on General Wang Qing, and how his actions had influenced the course of history throughout tenth-century China. Qing would eventually take part in a bloody battle, where he defeated enough enemies to pile them up into a small hill of corpses and would ultimately die standing upright.
Where Winds Meet is currently running its final closed beta until July 31. The game is slated for release on PC, iOS, Android, and PS5 this year, with the PS5 version having exclusivity for six months.
