Rafa is one of the more intriguing Soldier types in Borderlands history, especially with his diverse toolkit. However, that diversity extends to his cosmetics. If Vex’s outfits and hairstyles are in keeping with her “Dark Siren” aesthetic, then Rafa’s options present some alternate takes and “What ifs.” Check them out below.
Associate art director Max Davenport says the team wanted to explore various possibilities for the Exo-Soldier if things had gone differently. These include a blindfold, more explicit Tediore outfits with bigger helmets that cover his entire head.
New Tales from the Borderlands players will also spot clothing referencing the Tediore Army. Some outfits turn Rafa into a dead ringer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s Adam Jensen and a gunslinger, complete with a face-covering bandana.
Borderlands 4 recently went gold and will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on September 12th (Nintendo Switch 2 players must wait until October 3rd). In the meantime, check out Rafa’s abilities and design philosophy.
