Red Dead Redemption is Likely Heading to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch 2, Per New ESRB Rating

Despite fan requests for a current-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2, developer Rockstar Games seemingly has other plans.

Rockstar Games can be quite enigmatic, taking years to ensure perfection for Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 while simultaneously denying fans of what they really want. That can manifest in cancelled DLC for the former, but in the latter’s case, it’s in the continued lack of announcements for a native current-gen release.

Well, don’t worry because Rockstar has seemingly heard your pleas and is working to bring Red Dead Redemption 1 to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Yes, numero uno – the first game. A new rating for the same has emerged courtesy of the Entertainment Software Ratings Board in the United States. Unsurprisingly, the open-world Western epic is rated “M” for Mature 17+.

Red Dead Redemption was originally released in 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360 but re-released for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in 2023 (albeit with all multiplayer content stripped away). That same re-release would come to PC last year with additional graphical options.

A current-gen console release isn’t unwarranted. However, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One (2019 for PC), and has yet to see any re-releases despite becoming the fourth best-selling game of all time. Rumors suggest it will happen at some point, though that alleged Fall release is looking much less likely now.
