Mortal Shell 2

With how packed the release schedule is for upcoming games, you can add another to the list: Cold Symmetry’s Mortal Shell 2. It’s launching on August 20th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, retailing at $49.99, though you can pick up the Devout Edition for $59.99 and receive 72 hours of advanced access. All eight Shells also receive a snazzy Obsidian Skin.

A new trailer is also available, highlighting the sheer range of death depravity that players will deal with. Despite the “2,” the sequel is a standalone follow-up with an open world that features over 60 dungeons and terrors that could give the first game’s threats a run for their money.

The real appeal in its Souls-like combat loop is the Shells. By embodying them, players can take on different abilities and playstyles. We’ve seen three of them in action – Tiel the Acolyte, Proxima the Broodseeker and Eredrim the Venerable – which offer hit-and-run tactics, pulling enemies close and colossal weapons for staggering enemies.

While the remaining six Shells have yet to be detailed, those curious about the gameplay loop can check out the open beta on PC. It features the Prologue and initial parts of the world and is rated “Very Positive” with 92 percent of the 4,601 user reviews recommending it. You can also unlock the ability to skip the game’s Prologue by playing through.
