With Remedy Entertainment proclaiming Control Resonant to be its biggest game yet, it’s probably unsurprising to learn that it’s longer than the first. Speaking to MinnMax in a rapid-fire interview, director Mikael Kasurinen confirmed that a full playthrough takes more time, though by how much remains unclear.
It’s also unknown whether this refers only to the story. Either way, the plot is somewhat broken up into chapters, though it “doesn’t feel like that,” per Kasurinen. And while we’ve heard about inspirations like the Southern Reach Trilogy, Roadside Picnic and The X-Files, the gameplay is inspired by DOOM (2016) and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
He also noted that this favorite Aberrant form is the Hammer, but how will you unlock the others? As it turns out, Dylan will collect different resources throughout for the same.
Finally, you don’t need to have played Control’s AWE DLC to enjoy Control Resonant. On the flipside, how much Alan Wake stuff could fans expect on a scale from one to ten? “2.5,” said Kasurinen, further reinforcing the fact that the chances of Wake invading your reality are always slim, but never zero.
Control Resonant launches on September 24th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out some extensive gameplay here that highlights Dylan’s beginning journey, where you can choose which form of the Aberrant to start with. It also offers a look at a later stage of the game with abilities and surreal navigation coming into play.
