The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past

It seemed obvious when host/producer Geoff Keighley announced an appearance at Gamescom. However, CD Projekt RED has gone ahead and confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, its first paid expansion for the title since 2015’s Blood and Wine, will appear at Gamescom Opening Night Live.

That’s on August 25th at 11 AM PT and before the trade fair officially opens. As for what to expect, the developer called it a “glimpse,” so it may only be a small teaser. But a lot can be conveyed in that window. Perhaps a release date to go with its 2027 window? One can only hope.

Of course, what you probably shouldn’t expect is for it to serve as a “prologue” for The Witcher 4. CD Projekt RED also noted that a “guided demo” is possible for Gamescom, so even more gameplay could emerge. Then again, it may go the Cyberpunk 2077 route and showcase it behind closed doors for the media.

Whatever the case may be, the team has reiterated several times that Songs of the Past is an expansion and similar in scope to Blood and Wine. Geralt has a new sword which is seemingly “very important” (and teased before the expansion’s reveal). As always, stay tuned for more updates, especially on other titles that will appear at Gamescom Opening Night Live.
