Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 has awakened a monster that the Marines and Orks are going to be hard-pressed to deal with. We knew the Necrons were going to be a potent faction when we saw their resurrection in the cinematic trailer.
A new gameplay trailer shows off what they look like on the field, and we must say they’re an enemy we’d try our best to avoid taking on. They’re built for sieges, with units that can tank heavy damage while dishing it out with deadly coordination and unnatural precision. They bring giant monsters that can turn invisible, phase through the walls of your defences, and have your forces in disarray even as their war engines and diverse troops wreak havoc outside of your camp. Their scarabs and spiders are great scouts and work well as forward troops, drawing the attention of opposing defenders and setting them up for some vicious ambushes.
They only get more powerful from there, their dominion over the battlefield fueling powers such as the ability to summon enslaved gods. Reanimators allow fallen troops to get back into the fray regularly enough to make them a real nuisance. Of course, Chronomancer Thothmek’s unique abilities and buffs to the reanimation speed, or Ahmnok, the former ruler of Kronus, are cunning commanders who know how to make the most of their troops in the field.
Long story short, they’re a big threat and worth keeping an eye on as we march towards the launch of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 on September 17th.
