A new round of datamining has provided some insights about Capcom’s performance targets for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds. As caught by Reddit user Lener30, Monster Hunter Wilds on Nintendo’s hybrid console will make use of dynamic resolution to ensure that frame rates remain smooth.
The datamine also includes references to “NSW2_DISPLAY_MODE_DOCK”, which seemingly ranges in resolution from 1080p to 1260p and all the way up to 1440p. Handheld mode, on the other hand, will run at a lower resolution, with ranges including 720p, 810p, and 864p. These ranges will work in tandem with the “DYNAMIC_RESOLUTION_MODE” feature, which comes with a host of target frame rates and corresponding resolutions.
All in all, it looks like Capcom is aiming for frame rates between 30 and 40 FPS on the Nintendo Switch 2. The dataminer has noted that all of these numbers also include the use of technologies like DLSS. Another interesting point of note is the fact that the developers are targeting separate performance targets based on whether or not the Switch 2 is docked, with the game’s programming sometimes including “_D” as part of variable names.
Taking these numbers into account, speculation indicates that Capcom might target similar performance numbers for Monster Hunter Wilds on the Nintendo Switch 2 as it did with Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata. Both titles ran at an internal resolution of 540p, which was then upscaled through DLSS.
Capcom announced that it has begun work on a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds back in June. The confirmation came shortly after the company unveiled the expansion for the game – Ascendance – that would introduce new content, including the Master Rank difficulty tier.
One of the biggest additions to Monster Hunter Wilds with its expansion will be a new gauntlet, dubbed the Boost Bracer, that players can use to augment their attack. The Boost Bracer will work regardless of the equipped weapon, and will open up an entirely new set of moves that can be pulled off in the midst of long hunts. As for Master Rank quests, players will be able to access them, and in turn the new story, after they wrap up the 7-star Assignment “Awakening From a Dream”.
While not too many details about the expansion’s story have been revealed, the developers have confirmed that a new locale, dubbed the Skybound Eyrie, will be its central focus. This new locale has been described as a series of floating islands, each littered with ruins of what seems to have been ancient structures. Players worried about how difficult it might be to traverse these floating islands will be happy to learn that the Seikret can easily glide between them.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance doesn’t yet have a release date. However, Capcom has confirmed that it is slated for a 2027 release.
As for other Capcom games coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, the company has confirmed that it is working on bringing open-world RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 and its Dark Arisen expansion to the platform.
