The Metro series has never been one for uplifting circumstances, which is understandable given its post-apocalyptic setting. But Metro 2039 takes things to a whole different level, with 4A Games calling it a darker, more ambitious offering. Check out the latest gameplay trailer below.
It sees The Wanderer asking for information and being told that he’s come to the wrong place, especially with the Novoreich wandering about. Gameplay snippets include using a blowtorch to cut through a door, discovering blueprints, and weapon customisation. The surface also remains as dangerous as ever, with mutants smacking anything within their reach.
Throughout it all, we hear Hunter, the leader of the Novoreich, stating the enemy must be destroyed (which cuts to slick footage of the Wanderer fighting soldiers). However, the Dark Ones also speak to our mysterious protagonist, seemingly echoing the same sentiment. Whatever is going on in the Wanderer’s head, it’s nothing good, but then again, it’s par for the course in this setting.
Metro 2039 launches in February 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. 4A Games recently revealed a full-size Spartan helmet, included in the Collector’s Edition and available to check out on the Gamescom show floor (along with the game’s demo). Head here to learn more.
