Rogue-lite shooter Armatus from Counterplay Games of Godfall fame launches on January 7th, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It fits within the previously announced Winter release window but narrowly misses 2026. Hopefully, the new trailer should offer some consolation. Check it out below.
Set in Paris, which is facing a demonic invasion, Armatus has you playing as a powerful warrior who helps out the remaining survivors. Easier said than done given the sheer variety of enemies out there, but thankfully, you can augment your powers with each run.
Yes, this is a rogue-lite, and combined with the ability to dodge, the Returnal and Saros comparisons are inevitable. Not that this is a bad thing, especially since the variety of weapons and abilities looks to be solid. Between submachine guns, shotguns and whatnot, there are plenty of ways to fight back against the demonic hordes.
Published by Fictions, who also handled Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation, Armatus will also launch on day one for Game Pass. Having experienced the limited-time demo on PC, there’s definitely potential here. Time will tell if Counterplay Games can capitalize on that and deliver a memorable experience for both action fans and roguelite players.
