Bytten Studio’s Cassette Beasts 2002 made a surprise appearance during Xbox @ Gamescom’s Day 2 broadcast, confirming a March 2027 release window. It’s coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, and based on the latest trailer, there’s plenty of creature fusing to be had.
As a follow-up to the 2023 original, the setting shifts to Nodnol, which is based on London in the 2000s. A mysterious occultist has transported several people into this mysterious world, and you’ll need to harness over 250 beasts to unravel their plans. You can also meet 12 companions with their own quests and bonds, but perhaps most exciting is that Neil Newbon of Baldur’s Gate 3 fame is on board, voicing Westerley.
While combat retains its predecessor’s essentials, you’ll have to deal with Rogue monsters who return later, having adapted to your tactics. Nevertheless, with 50,000 beast combinations to harness, it should be possible to keep them guessing. Hopefully.
Alongside facing friends in PvP (with power-scaling options), Cassette Beasts 2002 lets you trade tapes and partake in co-op through the story. Considering how good the original was, the sequel looks to surpass it in almost every single way. Stay tuned for more updates before its release.
