Xbox impressed many with its Day 1 broadcast at Gamescom, debuting extensive quest gameplay for Playground Games’ Fable. But if you’re more interested in the combat, various outlets (like GameRiot) went hands-on with the demo and captured extensive footage of a quest to hunt down some Hollow Folk. Check it out below.
Joining Humphry, the player ventures into a mine to investigate the source of so many Hollow Folk. Besides wraiths, players must deal with reanimated skeletons, which is where the trusty two-handed hammer comes into play. A few spells are thrown into the mix, including fireballs, and one nice touch is that transforming a Hollow Folk into a chicken results in the latter being completely skeletal as well.
It all culminates in a battle against a Lantern Keeper who keeps creating more wraiths while floating around. The bow and arrow is handy here, but if you want more than four shots, the second half of the video features the same quest with a crossbow. At 14 shots, it’s a viable ranged alternative.
Fable launches on February 23rd, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It promises over 1,000 handcrafted NPCs, each with dedicated voice acting, routines and personalities. You can check out more gameplay here for activities like blacksmithing, running a tavern, and more.
