Crimson Desert’s Updates May Not Have The Same “Scope, Scale and Pace” After 2.0

"We're taking this opportunity to shift our development resources from these regular updates to focus on the upcoming DLC."

Almost six months since it launched, Crimson Desert has finally addressed one of its most lacking components – the narrative – with its latest update. From new cutscenes to added dialogue, it vastly improves the narrative without changing it. Appreciate it for as long as you can because PR and marketing director Will Powers doesn’t believe further updates will have the same “scope, scale, and pace.”

Speaking to IGN at Gamescom, he called the Enhanced update “a great transition point. We’ve had this great pace of updates continually expanding the world of Pywel. With 2.0, this is all very purposeful in how we name stuff. This is very much a fully realized experience within the world.”

This doesn’t mean that Pearl Abyss is abandoning support – there “still will be updates” per Powers, but its priorities are definitely shifting. “I don’t think the scope, scale, and pace of them will be as consistent past this point. What we’re taking this opportunity to do is shift our development resources from these regular updates to focus on the upcoming DLC.”

Unlike the new features, armor sets, and narrative improvements released thus far, the DLC will be paid and offer something completely different. What that could be remains to be seen, but recent changes point towards a nautical theme and potential underwater exploration.

Crimson Desert’s DLC is currently targeting a launch this year, with Pearl Abyss slated to reveal more within the third quarter. That would mean an announcement or reveal in September, including details on the content, structure, and cost.

Stay tuned for updates in the meantime. As for Version 2.00.00, it’s worth noting all the other improvements, including Abyss Links, which completely remove any grinding to unlock other characters’ skills. You can also reset each of their skills separately, and Kliff has gained a few new tricks, including the ability to sprint across water.
