Developer 4A Games took to the stage during Sony’s recent State of Play showcase to release a brand-new trailer for its upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter, Metro 2039. Along with giving us yet another look at the game itself, the trailer also focused on its visuals and performance when running on a PS5 Pro. Check it out below.

Starting off with quickly flashing between different scenes, the trailer then gives us a look at the slow-paced, exploration-heavy gameplay of Metro 2039. Along with slowly making his way through a dilapidated building, the protagonist also has to remember to swap out his anti-radiation filter. While sneaking his way up the stairs, the protagonist finds himself facing off against a squad of well-armed enemies.

To deal with them, the hero has his guns and other tools like grenades and throwing knives. The frantic firefight that follows involves the protagonist going room-by-room before he finds himself outdoors again. The trailer caps things off by once more showing some scenes from the game’s campaign.

Metro 2039 was unveiled back in April with a trailer. Going by its name, the title will take place around three years after the events of Metro Exodus, and 4A Games has noted that it will feature an “even darker story” than its predecessors. The title is being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, and is slated for release in February 4th, 2027.

In the meantime, take a look at how the developers want to bring back the Karma system, albeit with a few changes that will revolve around the game’s core themes of exploring the consequences of war.
