Crimson Desert’s Audio Design Receives In-Depth Behind-the-Scenes Look

Pywel’s many sound stages might work in the background when there’s so much to see, but they’re still an important part of the fantasy.

A game’s sound design often gets the short end of the stick when it comes to how tangible it has to be to stand out. Of course, there are titles where you find yourself remembering specific quirks, or perhaps catchy tunes, that come up as you engage with their worlds. Crimson Desert’s Pywel has often managed that, with the Abyss and everything else coming with a unique vibe shaped by its soundtrack and effects.

We’ve just received a look at how it all came to life in a showcase from Pearl Abyss, and it’s a fascinating look into how the developers managed to leave their Black Desert inspirations behind in the search for entirely new sounds, created with the specific goal of giving the new game its own identity. We’re especially impressed by Golden Star’s audio design, since it shows the sort of attention to detail that only comes when an artist truly loves the work that they’re doing.

All in all, this one’s a very interesting watch, and it makes us wonder what these talented minds are going to throw at us when Charting the Unknown, the game’s first paid DLC marks a new beginning when it launches on October 15th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Of course, there’s also the Nintendo Switch 2 version to look forward to next year, though we’ve yet to receive any further details.
