Mega Man: Dual Override Features 50+ Custom Chips, Three Areas Per Stage

Capcom also confirmed that Proto Man would receive powerful new Shield actions instead of Robot Master abilities like Mega Man.

While the reveal of Proto Man in Mega Man: Dual Override was cool enough, Capcom provided even more intriguing details in its latest Spotlight showcase. Check it out below.

Compared to Mega Man, who focuses on long-range attacks, Proto Man is all about close-quarters combat. He can pull up a shield to block damage, but charging it will unleash a powerful melee attack that can defeat multiple threats at once. It’s almost akin to a certain other ally – Zero, from Mega Man X.

Mega Man titles have usually offered eight stages for players to traverse, culminating in a boss fight against a Robot Master. Dual Override expands on this by offering three areas per stage, emphasising more variety. To further mix up runs, you can equip Custom Chips, which provide unique active and passive abilities. For example, Mega Man gets the Rapid Buster for faster firing and the Barrier to nullify damage.

There are over 50 Custom Chips in total, so there’s plenty of room to experiment. And while Mega Man gains new abilities after defeating Robot Masters, Proto Man instead learns new Shield actions.

Mega Man: Dual Override launches in Spring 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Stay tuned for more updates and gameplay in the coming months.
