For a game as brimming with side content and distractions as Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, there’s always the concern that players need to indulge in some of it to continue the main story. After feedback from players who complained about the same in Rebirth – since foregoing optional content left them under-leveled – director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that the finale automatically raises your level.
Speaking to IGN Japan (translation via Genki), he said that there will be an option at a “certain point” that asks, “Do you want to automatically raise the level to the recommended level?” This will provide a more linear experience like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, removing the need to engage with the open world.
While that may seem against the spirit of role-playing games in general, a typical playthrough in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation takes over 100 hours, per Hamaguchi in a separate interview. Not everyone has that kind of time commitment, and if you’re a new player who’s played the previous parts to experience the story’s finale, it’s a good way to stay on track.
The sentiment isn’t too different from the Streamlined Progression feature added to Intergrade and Rebirth for the Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. It lets you max out health, MP, and ATB during combat while buffing damage to 9,999 per hit.
Of course, this automatic level boosting apparently applies only to the story. If you want to engage with the end-game content, including battles against the WEAPONs, then some grinding may be necessary.
