If New Game+ wasn’t enough to bring you back to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft Singapore is adding a familiar difficulty setting in tomorrow’s update: Nightmare Mode. Last featured in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it increases enemy damage, greatly reduces stealth detection time, and even removes the one-shot kill protection, meaning bullets and explosives can end Edward very quickly.
And unlike Shadows, you’ll have to contend with increased damage from enemy ships and more lethal underwater wildlife. Hate urchins and jellyfish? Now they’re doubled. Scared of running out of oxygen? It depletes faster. Truly the most punishing difficulty, though you can adjust it for different categories if you favor nightmarish combat and more forgiving stealth.
Of course, the update adds new features like new hidden community chests with unique rewards and even some returning takedowns from the original. So if you’ve been missing the flair of executing foes while unarmed or wielding a gunblade, that should be fixed.
Update 1.0.8 launches on October 27th at 7 AM PT, but there’s a major caveat: It’s the final content update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Director Richard Knight said year-long support wasn’t a “crazy bet,” and after delivering in spades, Ubisoft is now seemingly keen to move on. Nevertheless, with over 3.5 million copies sold in two weeks, it’s been a good run.
