Game director for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Richard Knight, has said that Ubisoft will continue to support the title with more post-launch updates. When asked about what kind of support players can expect for the game, Knight told JorRaptor that there is still work left to be done on the remake, including bug fixes. While he acknowledges the fact that he “can’t say anything officially”, long-term support for at least a year “doesn’t feel like a crazy bet.”

“We need to, you know, fix bugs. Sorry for anyone running into bugs, uh, they hurt – they’re painful for us, too. And we do want to add some quality-of-life stuff. So, I mean, it’s a pretty reasonable guess.” He went on to discuss a variety of other things that could potentially come to the game, like more finisher animations. However, the addition of these features depends on the team getting the resources it needs, as well as the community asking for them.

Among the content that Knight has confirmed is being worked on is a New Game Plus mode. While he didn’t offer any official timeline for when the feature will make its way into Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, he said that it’s at the top of the studio’s list.

“Well, this is the one thing I can say: Yes, we’re working on that right now,” he said. “For sure. It’s one of the first things. Partly because Shadows has already built their version, so it’s considered a low-risk feature for us. We’re still doing the work, so I can’t promise exactly a day or anything, but we’re definitely working on it. It’s just such a natural thing.”

On the subject of Shadows, Knight noted that Black Flag Resynced still needs more work to make sure New Game Plus is developed because “our games are not exactly the same. We have different challenges in terms of how that works. We can’t skip to the hideout, necessarily. But we’re looking into it.”

Along with free updates, the team behind Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is also seemingly looking at potential DLC releases. “I know some folks on the team have DLC ideas,” said Knight. “We need to balance those out with our future, and then update the core game.”

However, these DLC plans likely won’t include the original Black Flag’s Freedom Cry expansion, since the team wants to keep the focus of Black Flag Resynced on Edward Kenway. Knight also noted that Freedom Cry was a large expansion with an entirely new story with its own distinct protagonist, and that the team is still busy with the base game.

“I can’t really say anything as to a Freedom Cry. We’ve got our hands full with this game right now. Freedom Cry, it’s not a small thing either,” he said.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S earlier this month and has turned out to be quite successful with 3 million copies sold so far. Check out our review here.
