Extremely OK Games – the studio behind Celeste – has announced that its upcoming title – City of None – is also coming to the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2 alongside its previously confirmed PC release. The Nintendo versions were announced with a brand-new trailer that you can check out below.

City of None was originally announced for PC all the way back in April. Since then, Extremely OK Games has likely continued its quiet development work on the project, since no new details have been revealed. It doesn’t even have a release date yet aside from a general 2027 window. It is worth noting that the new trailer showcasing the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions shows the same gameplay footage as the original reveal trailer.

According to Extremely OK Games, City of None will involve players running, jumping, and fighting their way through a metropolis that seems to be populated by strange spirits. Players will also have to deal with beasts and robots as they explore further, and will make many allies throughout their time in the strange city. While not too many details about the core story have been revealed, the studio has confirmed that the main antagonists will be a group known only as the “ravenous Barons”, from whom players must wrestle away control of the city.

Alongside the standard platforming gameplay that Extremely OK Games is known for thanks to its work on Celeste, City of None will also seemingly involve Metroidvania elements, since exploration will reward players with unique items and new power-ups that will give them access to entirely new ways to traverse. These abilities will likely come in quite handy, since players will have to make their way through five of the city’s sectors, each of which is made up of many pathways.

The art itself harkens back to an old-school pixel style. However, the studio has also decided to pay attention to details, resulting in lushly animated environments with several background details, all created with large, blocky pixels and a limited color palette that always ensures that things never get too distracting.

Prior to City of None, Extremely OK Games was working on Earthblade – a title unveiled all the way back in December 2022. It was originally being developed with a 2023 release window. However, it saw many delays before the studio ultimately announced that the project had been canceled. While not too many details about the events leading up to this cancelation had been revealed, the studio said that it came down to the hardships it faced due to disputes over the IP rights for Celeste.

While Earthblade will likely never get released, composer Lena Raine – who had also composed music for Celeste – decided to release the soundtrack through an album on her own Bandcamp page.

In the meantime, take a look at our review of 2018’s Celeste, where we gave it a score of 10 out of 10 thanks to its strong level design, fun gameplay, excellent music, challenging optional levels, and a gorgeous pixel art style.
