Ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6’s November 19th release, more details about the title are slated to be revealed in the next issue of Edge Magazine. According to GamesRadar, the issue will include a 16-page cover story with interviews and screenshots that will showcase what has been described as “the most ambitious project in Rockstar’s history.”

Those who pick up a physical copy of the magazine will also be able to get their hands on a special gatefold cover that shows off the two protagonists from the upcoming game – Jason and Lucia. The issue is slated to hit stands on October 29th, and the full feature itself will be released for free online.

Rockstar has made no secret of the ambitions it has with Grand Theft Auto 6, and the company has even confirmed that it worked on making its open world feel more alive by having dedicated teams for writing the NPC chatter that a player typically hears when roaming around. Vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries spoke about how this “team of writers and creatives” focused only on the “‘background noise’ that makes the city and the world come to life.”

“It’s a team from all sorts of backgrounds and walks of life, but we all share a sense of humor and a desire to have a bit of fun with the ridiculousness of humans and the media and advertising. And none of us see it as background! It’s all part of the tapestry of the game and creates the experience of living in this wild world.”

Open-world writing director James Horton also noted that this was part of the studio’s general development process where specific teams would work on small details that would typically be ignored by other game development studios making their own open-world projects.

“There are no shortcuts when it comes to building a world like this: it’s a question of giving the right people the resources they need to build something that’s not only vast and varied as a whole, but where every part rings true no matter how small it is, or how closely you look at it. It needs to wash over you when you’re sprinting down the busiest street in the city, hearing snatches of a hundred different conversations as you go; and it needs to be totally convincing if you decide to stop and pay close attention to any one of those conversations.”

Rockstar North co-founder Rob Nelson has also confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 aims to offer more player agency even during missions. While he acknowledged that “the narrative aspect does need to take precedence” over the gameplay in some moments, the team has also “made a very conscious effort to open things up where possible, without compromising the quality of the experience.”

Along with this, the more systemic nature of Grand Theft Auto 6’s general gameplay will allow even open-world activities to feel like they were tightly scripted moments from the main story missions.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is making its way to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and preloading is slated to start on November 12th.
