BioWare not implementing gamepad support in Mass Effect 3 PC due to extra developmental costs

We reported recently that Mass Effect 3 on the PC will not support gamepads, and it will have to be played with the tradition keyboard and mouse controls. BioWare says they did not implement gamepads support in Mass Effect 3 due to extra developmental costs and time.

“There is a development cost in terms of time/effort to get all the graphical user interfaces so 360 buttons show up on PC,” senior designer Manveer Heir tweeted (via Eurogamer). “It may seem minor, but our GUI team was already stretched thin, and things were coming in at the last minute, so we couldn’t add more work.”

Heir went on to say that BioWare did care about PC gamers, contrary to many claims, and when told that this move reflected largely on BioWare’s “we don’t give a damn” attitude, he said: “Definitely not ‘we don’t give a damn. It’s unfortunate and I understand why people are upset, but there are dev realities, sadly.”

Mass Effect 3 releases March 6 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and has gone gold already. A demo is already out. You can read our single player and multiplayer impressions of the game through the links.

BioWare recently also said that Mass Effect 3 will be longer than Mass Effect 2. Read the full story here.
