For those of you who avoid contact with other people and popular culture in general, you should know that Apple have delivered a new iPad recently, once again setting the bar for how other tablet PCs should perform. Whether you’ve bagged yourself one or are sitting on the fence, you’ll want to know what games are really showing off the system’s potential. Read on for a selection of iPad games that are pushing the hardware to the limit.

Dead Space

One of the first examples that console quality gaming experiences could be delivered on a tablet, Dead Space on the iPad offered all the tense action that made the console series such a resounding success. The level of atmosphere and the graphical polish made Dead Space a stellar example of what modern handheld technology is capable of, and it still stands as one of the best looking games on iPad.

The Dark Meadow

One of the earlier games on the app store to utilise the Unreal Engine, The Dark Meadow sees players struggling to survive in an abandoned correctional facility. Horror cliches aside, the use of audio and lighting is absolutely stunning for an iPad title, and these graphical flourishes must be pushing Apple’s tablet to the very limits of its hardware.

Shadowgun

Imagine Gears of War on iPad and you can kind of see what Shadowgun will be like, graphical quality and all. Okay, so maybe it isn’t quite as impressive as any of the GoW games, but it sure as hell comes close, and for a tablet game that is one hell of an achievement. Showing off the power of the Unity engine and the iPad to the full, Shadowgun is a great game to demonstrate exactly what your iPad can do.
