Alan Wake 2 is going to be a game of a few firsts for developer Remedy Entertainment. Not only is it set to be the studio’s first ever full-fledged survival horror game, it’ll also be the first ever Remedy game with two playable protagonists, with tortured writer Alan Wake himself also being joined by FBI profiler Saga Anderson this time around.

Hot on the heels of the game’s recent showing in May, Remedy has now released the first in a series of new behind-the-scenes videos that’ll focus on several aspects of the upcoming sequel, with the focus here being squarely on Saga and what players can expect from her. Check it out below.

Saga is fairly new to the Bright Falls area, and was led into the Pacific Northwest on the trail of a recent string of mysterious ritualistic murders. She’s described as a kind person, and that trait also helps her be a better detective and protagonist. She’s also a mother, and actor Melanie Liburd, who plays the character, says how the character balances her work and her personal life will also play into the story.

Meanwhile, according to game director Kyle Rowley, Saga will also serve as something of a stand-in for players who haven’t played the original Alan Wake and might not be too familiar with the universe, seeing as the sequel will be separated by its predecessor by a thirteen-year gap.

“We’re obviously quite aware that the first game came out 13 years ago, so we wanted to make sure that we had a hero character who would bring the perspective of new players,” Rowley says. “We wanted to make sure that new players would be learning with her through the story.”

In the video, the developers also speak about Alan Wake 2’s structure and game design, which will feature more open-ended areas that players will be able to freely explore, in addition to the return of several familiar locations from the original game. Read more on that through here.

Alan Wake 2 is set to launch on October 17 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and will be a digital-only release. Raw gameplay footage for the survival horror title will be debuted at Summer Game Fest on June 8.
