Remedy Entertainment recently confirmed that its upcoming survival horror title, Alan Wake 2, will feature a Performance Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch, giving players the option to prioritize a higher frame rate than the default 30 FPS. Given the lack of any mention of the Xbox Series S, however, questions have been asked whether a developer also has similar plans for the game’s Xbox Series S version.

Sadly, that won’t be the case. Remedy has confirmed to Game Informer that Alan Wake 2 won’t have a Performance Mode on Xbox Series S. Though specifics on the game’s performance and resolution targets and each individual system have yet to be confirmed, it doesn’t look like those intending to play the game on the Xbox Series S will be able to run it at 60 FPS.

This isn’t the first time that Remedy Entertainment has run into technical issues with the lower-spec current-gen Xbox console. Back in 2021, shortly after the launch of Control’s current-gen port, the studio spoke about the challenges of optimizing for the Xbox Series S.

Alan Wake 2 is due out on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
