The Mist and Quiver
The plot of Half Life by writer Marc Laidlaw – who eventually left Valve earlier this year; we’ll get to him soon – was pretty darn good. It managed to rise above cliches to deliver a compelling, well-told experience. However, the basic premise of the game bears resemblances to another well-known property – Stephen King’s The Mist which also saw monsters running haywire from a military experiment gone wrong. In fact, Half Life was code-named Quiver at some point, a nod to the military base in The Mist named Arrowhead.
