You originally started with the sword
Legend of Zelda fans, know how the game starts out. For the uninitiated Zelda starts out with an old man who tells him “It’s dangerous to go alone!” then gives him his first sword. However initially the game had the player start out with the sword right from the get go. Legend of Zelda at the time was quite a complex game and Miyamoto made the game even more complex and confusing, which included starting the player off without any means to defend themselves.
