April NPD sales for this year revealed, the industry is in shambles

We have the April NPD 2012 sales for you and it’s not looking pretty. Activision’s Prototype 2 is the title that sold the most and did over 200k. When compared to last year same period, the top 7 tiles outsold the no. 1 title of April 2012, which really shows how big the decline is.

Kinect Star Wars is at the no. 2 spot followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Xenoblade, which was released in the US after a lot of requests from the fans failed to top the top 10 chart.

“Last April, the top seven titles outsold the top-selling title this year, and, simply stated, there were notably fewer new market introductions,” said Anita Frazier.

“I think it’s a simple as that because when we see compelling content come into the market, the games are still selling as well as ever – we just saw a lot less this April as compared to last.”

Nintendo declined to give PR, and Sony failed to reveal hardware numbers. The Xbox 360 sold 236k in which was one of the slowest month of sales ever.
