Just when it seemed like Ubisoft was building some positive momentum following the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it effectively hit the reset button. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is cancelled, and five new Creative Houses have been established to handle future projects, including seven delayed games. That includes the “unannounced title” previously set for this fiscal quarter, which, according to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, was Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Remake.

It was allegedly going to go gold in the first week of February and launch on March 19th, available only via digital storefronts. Now, it’s seemingly launching in 2027. Why did this happen? Henderson doesn’t know, but replied, “In hindsight, it could have been full of bugs, which is why they have delayed it. So it sucks short-term, but it will be better when it releases.”

Allegedly titled Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, rumors of a remake first surfaced in 2023, and it was reportedly set to release in 2025 before the delay of Shadows. Play Arts artists and actor Matt Ryan, who voiced Edward Kenway in the original, both teased its existence last year, and further rumors claimed that it would have new content.

But while the promise of an improved map and weather effects from Shadows seemed nice, it would also apparently do away with the modern-day sections, which some fans took umbrage with. A rating from PEGI, and it seemed only a matter of time before an announcement. Unfortunately, all that’s left to do now is wait and hope it doesn’t get axed.
