Avowed Gameplay Finally Debuts, Releasing in 2024

Travel to the Living Lands as an envoy of Aedyr and investigate a mysterious plague in Obsidian's first-person fantasy action RPG.

As rumored, Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed finally re-emerged at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023. Its first gameplay was showcased, with the titular hero, an envoy of Aedyr, having great power. However, the narrator is unsure if they’ll use it for good or evil. Check out the gameplay below.

Set in the Living Lands, the same world as Pillars of Eternity, Avowed is a first-person action RPG where players can wield a weapon in one hand and cast spells in the other. You can enchant weapons with elements like fire and ice or cast spells to trap opponents with roots. The story concerns a plague that could destroy everything, and it’s up to you to save the island.

Of course, given Obsidian’s previous titles, you’ll likely have other choices about what to do, some of which could lead to different endings. Avowed is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2024, and launching day one on Game Pass, so we’ll need to stay tuned for more details.
