Indie AAA studio Rebel Wolves – formed by former CD Projekt RED veterans – announced earlier this year that its debut project – a AAA dark fantasy action RPG – would be titled Dawnwalker, and now we have further information on the title- specifically, on who will be publishing it.
It has been announced that Dawnwalker will be published by Bandai Namco, with both digital and physical versions confirmed.
“Rebel Wolves is a new studio built upon solid foundations: a combination of experience and fresh energy,” said Tomasz Tinc, Rebel Wolves’ chief publishing officer. “Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe, a company known for its dedication to the role-playing genre and willingness to engage with new IPs, is a perfect match for our wolfpack. Not only does it share our values, but also its track record in publishing narrative-driven RPGs speaks for itself. We’re looking forward to working with them to bring the first chapter of the Dawnwalker saga to gamers worldwide.”
“This is another key milestone in our content development strategy for the Western market,” said Alberto Gonzalez, Bandai Namco Europe’s vice president for business development. “By combining our strengths, we will deliver this first game of the studio to a worldwide audience. We’re excited with the universe being created by Rebel Wolves thanks to their extremely talented team of developers, resulting in a great addition to our portfolio.”
Dawnwalker is described as a narrative-driven sandbox RPG. The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5, and is being positioned as the first chapter of a larger saga with multiple instalments.
In 2022, Rebel Wolves announced that it had secured a strategic investment from NetEase for the development of its debut title, while earlier in the year, it was revealed that the studio had hired The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 veteran Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz as its creative director.
There’s no word yet on a release window or target platforms for Dawnwalker, but Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco say more details will be shared in “the coming months”, so stay tuned.
