Nearly two years ago, Rebel Wolves announced itself to the world as a new independent AAA team formed by former CD Projekt RED veterans, with the studio’s debut project being a AAA dark fantasy action RPG being made on Unreal Engine 5. Now, the studio has announced a major recruitment, with another former CDPR vet joining the team.

As reported by VGC, Rebel Wolves has announced that it has recruited Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz as creative director. Tomaszkiewicz was at CD Projekt RED for nearly 13 years until his departure in May 2021, and during his tenure, he worked as lead quest designer on The Witcher 3 and its expansions, as quest director on Cyberpunk 2077, and as game director on Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

“There are so many fantastic RPGs out there today, however, I feel that there’s not only enough space but also a hunger among players for more captivating stories,” Tomaszkiewicz said. “We aim to deliver an experience that will allow for a variety of choices and room for experimentation when replayed. Helping craft this experience with so many talented people will be my mission at Rebel Wolves, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what the team has been up to for quite a while now.”

Tomaszkiewicz’s most recent stint was at Riot Games, which he left after two years in December. At Rebel Wolves, he will lead the studio’s debut project alongside founder, CEO, and game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz.

Rebel Wolves has also revealed that its action RPG, which is set to be the first instalment in a larger saga, has entered the alpha stage of development. The studio intends to share new details on the projects later this year.

In November of 2022, Rebel Wolves announced that it had secured strategic investment from NetEase for its debut project. Read more on that through here.
