The weapon specialization system in Battlefield 5 is an interesting new mechanic, especially since DICE is further emphasizing the drawbacks of different specializations However, as pointed out by community members, this could provide an edge to players who have more time invested and thus more upgrades unlocked. Newer players could be at a disadvantage, though this will also depend on how viable each weapon will be in different situations when fully upgraded.
