The upcoming release of Battlefield 6 has sparked questions about whether the multiplayer shooter’s online infrastructure will hold up to launch-day stress. While all multiplayer-centric titles tend to face these issues, the Battlefield series has been notorious for having server issues on launch. However, Battlefield Studios is quite optimistic about Battlefield 6 being able to handle launch-day server loads.

While expressing excitement over the release of Battlefield 6 on social media, lead producer David Sirland was asked by a fan whether the title will be ready to handle the load when it comes out on October 10, which also happens to be a Friday. To this, Sirland responded by saying that the studio has been planning for high demand, and that the popularity of the open beta from back in August also helped the studio in gauging how much interest there was in Battlefield 6.

“Should be,” wrote Sirland when asked about whether Battlefield Studios would be ready to handle players on launch day. “We are planning for that of course, and open beta helped gauge the interest as well.”

There has been quite a bit of excitement over the release of Battlefield 6, with some analysts even believing that the shooter would end up selling quite well. Data supplier firm Ampere, for instance, believes that it will manage to sell 5 million copies across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in its first week alone. The firm noted that this data was extrapolated from its estimates of 22 million players having taken part in the Battlefield 6 beta.

Another firm, Newzoo, stated slightly higher estimates for beta participation with 25 million players. Comparing the Battlefield 6 beta with the beta for Battlefield 2042, Newzoo noted that the upcoming title was able to hit a concurrent player count of 10.4 million, which is over double the 5.1 million of Battlefield 2042’s beta.

As for the launch day, Battlefield Studios has noted that the first update to hit Battlefield 6 on October 10 will, have more than 200 changes to various aspects of the game, from core gameplay to bug fixes and balance changes. The group of developers – comprised of DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive Studios and Criterion – has also noted that more than 92 million hours were cumulatively played during the beta.

While there will be plenty of changes in the update, EA and Battlefield Studios have also revealed a few details about what players can expect from the upcoming first season of Battlefield 6. Season 1 of the game, slated to start on October 28, will feature three phases of content updates, each phase bringing with it new weapons, maps, and even game modes. The first of these will feature the Blackwell Fields map, as well as a 4-on-4 round-based game mode dubbed Strikepoint.

The first season of Battlefield 6 is also slated to bring with it something titled Covert Operations, which Battlefield Studios hasn’t revealed too many details about so far.
