With Battlefield 6 and REDSEC getting close to the May 12th release date of their third season, players have discovered that EA has kicked off pre-orders for the new battle pass. As caught by a Reddit user, two distinct versions of the Battlefield 6 Season 3 battle pass are available for pre-order—a standard version, and the Battlefield Pro package, which includes a few extras like tier skips and exclusive cosmetics.

The standard battle pass is available for roughly $9.99, while pre-ordering Battlefield Pro will cost $24.99. The decision to make the battle pass available for pre-order so far ahead of the season launch has divided players, with many in the Reddit thread noting that this opens the door for unlocking new weapons and gear much earlier than for those who just wait for the season to kick off.

While some players seem to be fine with it, noting that many players were likely going to buy the new battle pass anyway, others have noted that this is essentially “blind buying”, since the contents of the battle pass haven’t yet been revealed. Reddit users have also brought up competing shooters like Call of Duty that, despite heavy monetization, don’t yet offer battle pass pre-orders. In contrast, Apex Legends allows players to pre-order new seasonal battle passes regularly.

Season 3 of Battlefield 6 and REDSEC will bring in a host of new content to both the regular multiplayer and the free-to-play battle royale. Fans of multiplayer can look forward to the Railway to Golmud map—a remake of Battlefield 4‘s classic Golmud Railway, which Battlefield Studios has described as the biggest map in the game so far, measuring at around four times the size of Mirak Valley.

The developers revealed a few of their design decisions for the remade map in a recent community post, where they also confirmed that the moving train on the map has been equipped with another engine that would also allow it to go the other way.

“We have better technology than we did 13 years ago,” level designer Luka Grepl-Malmgren said. “Two of the original level artists of Golmud Railway are still here at DICE, so we all worked together to not only recreate their work, but also understand what was not possible in Battlefield 4 and bring those ideas to life in Battlefield 6.”

In a more recent community update, Battlefield Studios has also confirmed that it is continuing to evaluate weapon behavior and time-to-kill to improve the consistency and gameplay depth offered by each weapon. Recoil will also receive adjustments over time, making the performance differences between weapons easier to understand.

Battlefield 6 and REDSEC are available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
