During the recent New Game+ Showcase, developer Pokuch and publisher META Publishing revealed a new open-world survival crafting game. Dubbed Blind Descent, the title was announced with a trailer, which you can check out below. The major twist in Blind Descent is the fact that the game takes place underneath the surface of planet Mars.
The story revolves around the aftermath of a catastrophic mission failure, with the player taking on the role of the mission’s only survivor, finding themselves waking up in an alien ecosystem. While things start off with the protagonist looking for their crew members, over the course of gameplay, they will end up learning how they can live in harmony with the world around them.
A major gameplay mechanic in Blind Descent is the Symbiosis System, which revolves around the logic of Scavengers Reign. The system involves players interacting with the ecosystem around them to learn more about the world.
Blind Descent has a demo available on Steam, and is going to be released as an Early Access game. The developers are approximating a year’s worth of development during Early Access before the game gets its 1.0 launch. There are plans for regular content updates, including story additions. The final release of the game is expected to integrate seamlessly with the complete storyline and offer full gameplay mechanics.
Alongside single-player gameplay, Blind Descent also supports co-op. It is slated for release on PC (via Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
