Pokemon GO is a massive success, one of the most popular games in the world that has generated an obscene amount of money in the two and a half years that it has been on the market. Which makes it that much more astonishing that very few other developers have attempted to cash in on its style of game.
But one developer who may be trying to do just that might be Blizzard. In a report by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier on the state of Blizzard’s internal affairs, a Pokemon GO style Warcraft game being made for smartphones is brought up. This game will allegedly actually have more single player content than Pokemon GO has.
Not much more is known about the game right now, other than the fact that the incubation team at Blizzard, which is responsible for smaller mobile projects, is working on it. It is entirely possible the game doesn’t even end up coming out. However, if it does, then it might have to work to gain the same kind of traction Pokemon GO did, simply because Warcraft does not have the kind of cachet that Pokemon does globally.
If it does end up taking off, on the other hand, then Blizzard would have another major money maker on their hands.
