If you know your Chikages from your Rakuyos, you’re probably as much of a Bloodborne fan as we are, and want to go back to the Hunter’s Dream (or the nightmare) almost constantly.
That’s the power of a title that took a popular formula at the time and reworked it into a combat loop that still thrills us as much as it did all those years ago. That’s why we were so excited to hear whispers about an animated Bloodborne film in the works with Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin, whom you might recognize if you like Hitman, attached as a producer. He told IGN that things are moving along for the project, and that it now has a writer and director on board as well as a clear reason for picking the animated format over live-action.
“Is it even a smart decision to do it live action at that point, when there’s a lot of stuff that you’d be able to do in animation that you can’t do in live action, or you wouldn’t nail down? And I think Bloodborne specifically is poised to do that well, because there’s so much otherworldly aspects in that that would just be so cool to be able to blow the doors off animated rather than being like, ‘Okay, put you in front of a green screen, and let’s hope for the best.’ Now, we can really whittle it down into something cool.”
It’s definitely exciting to think we’ll be able to sit back and watch the Hunter do their thing instead of pulling off frantic dodges and parries while trying to stay out of the way of some truly vicious foes. There are no story details yet, but we can’t imagine Lady Maria or other key characters not being involved.
We’re also hoping that there’s a Cainhurst knight in there somewhere, complete with the faction’s penchant for elegance and bombast in the field. In the absence of a sequel or PC port, this is probably the next best thing, and we’re glad it’s progressing well at the moment.
