Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford has confirmed a new trailer for Borderlands 4 at The Game Awards 2024 on December 12th at 4:30 PM PST. He previously alluded to the same last week, describing it as “badass af” and “knocking me out,” even though he wasn’t supposed to discuss it.

Details on Borderlands 4 are sketchy, outside of four new playable Vault Hunters and what could be a new setting. Creative director Graeme Timmins also previously discussed adding more depth to the gameplay without getting “too complicated”, especially regarding the series’ signature Action Skill. Otherwise, there will likely be shooting and looting as per tradition.

Time will tell what the new trailer could reveal, but it’s launching in 2025 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC (with Take-Two Interactive giving it a wider “before April 2026” window more recently). Perhaps a release date will be announced at The Game Awards, but it’s for sure not launching anywhere close to Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6, which arrives in Fall 2025. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
