It was only a matter of time before this happened- microtransactions have been introduced in Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Just in time for the Holiday season, Call of Duty Points can be purchased with real money and used to buy Special Orders in the Black Market. COD Points can also be spent to purchase tiers in the Black Market’s Contraband menu, so you can pay to skip the grind in those cases.
As for Special Orders, these are unique tier stream that are added and level along with the Contraband (and the currently active Halloween tier). Two Special Orders are currently available – Firebreak and Seraph – which provide their own sets of items. Once these Special Orders have been purchased, you have an unlimited amount of time to complete them by playing the game. However, you cannot level two Special Orders simultaneously.
Purchasing separate tiers will also unlock the items in the Special Orders tier stream. Each tier costs 100 COD Points to unlock. Currently, the microtransaction system is only live on PlayStation 4. It will become available for Xbox One and PC within the next week or so. What are your thoughts on this system of monetization for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, especially since free items are provided through simply playing the game with the Contraband system?
