Multiplayer is usually a mixed bag in a Call of Duty title – see last year’s Modern Warfare 3. With Treyarch back at the helm for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, it looks to offer something Sledgehammer didn’t with last year’s title: Brand-new 6v6 maps.

A new blog post confirmed that multiplayer would have 16 new maps at launch. Twelve are Core 6v6 maps, while the remaining four are compact Strike Maps, playable in 2v2 or Face Off 6v6. They’re also set after the campaign and provide unique stories, which is a nice touch.

As for their design, “Many feature innovations on the classic three-lane map design, with quick time to engagement, sized in the small to medium-sized range for the right amount of complexity for meaningful player choice, and to keep the action flowing and the pacing optimal. Maps intentionally support gameplay diversity, as supporting different playstyles is the foundation of how the studio builds these maps, even up to professional levels of Ranked play.”

Treyarch also confirmed that the Classic Prestige is returning. Upon reaching level 55, players can opt into Prestige, unlocking their weapons and gear while earning new rewards. There are ten Prestiges in total – complete those, and you advance to Prestige Master, which has 1,000 more levels. Reach the end, and a “classified reward” awaits.

If that doesn’t sound enticing, Theater Mode is also confirmed to return. Coming to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on October 25th. Head here for more details on the campaign or learn about Omnimovement in multiplayer.
