Call of Duty had something of an off year in 2021 with the less-than-stellar performance of Vanguardbut it seems the pendulum has swing back with this year’s entry. Within three days of its release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had raked in over $800 million in revenue, and now, Activision has announced that it’s crossed another major milestone.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has crossed $1 billion in revenue within just 10 days of launch. That makes it the fastest-selling Call of Duty game to date, beating out 2012’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which took 15 days to hit the same milestone.

Since its launch, Modern Warfare 2 has been played for over 200 million hours by players all over the world, while over a billion multiplayer matches have also already been played across all platforms.

“Our developers, along with our entire Activision Blizzard team, are the backbone of our unwavering commitment to serve our hundreds of millions of players around the world,” says Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. “I am so proud of the extraordinary efforts from our Call of Duty teams and the records they have achieved with Modern Warfare 2. Connecting the world through joy, fun and the thrill of competition is the key to our success. Modern Warfare 2 has provided this to millions of players faster and with greater satisfaction than ever before.”

“The incredible momentum driving Modern Warfare 2 is a direct reflection of the energy and passion of the Call of Duty community,” says Johanna Faries, General Manager, Call of Duty. “As we look ahead to an unprecedented level of support for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0’s launch next week, we are motivated to deliver again for the best player community in the world.”

Previously, it was also announced that Modern Warfare 2 had enjoyed the series’ biggest ever PlayStation Store launch to date.

In our review of the game, we awarded it a score of 7/10, saying, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beats out the last several Call of Duty games, but resists the potential to be truly great.” Read the full review through here.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Extraction-based multiplayer mode DMZ and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will also be unveiled in full this week. The latter launches for the aforementioned platforms on November 16. Meanwhile, Modern Warfare 2 will add Ranked Play in 2023.
