Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has got off to a predictably flying start since its launch last week, but of course, there’s plenty more that Activision still has in the pipeline for the first person shooter. New content and updates will be arriving for some time to come, and as part of that, it’s been confirmed when players can expect the game to add ranked multiplayer.
Treyarch will be working with developer Infinity Ward to bring ranked play to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sometime in 2023. Though a specific date hasn’t been announced, over on Twitter, Treyarch confirms that this will entail competitive modes and rewards, top 250 leaderboards, ranked skill divisions, and visible skill ratings. Treyarch also confirms that it will begin winding down League Play for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Ranked Play for Call of Duty: Vanguard this month, by November 22.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has enjoyed a wildly impressive release as far as its sales are concerned, not only enjoying the series’ biggest every PlayStation Store launch, but also the best ever Call of Duty opening weekend, raking in over $800 million in revenue.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Check out our review of the game through here.
