Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 - Gunsmith 2.0

Ahead of the Call of Duty: Next showcase tomorrow, Infinity Ward has released a new video discussing Gunsmith 2.0 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Like in the previous game, players can customize different attachments for a weapon, like the stock, optic, grip, and so on.

However, a new category is added – receivers. On reaching the receiver for a weapon through leveling, the next weapon in that platform (previously outlined as a “family of shared guns and attachments”) unlocks. Mods for the previous weapon will then carry over to the new weapons.

Each receiver has a unique progression. For example, upon unlocking a receiver for an AR, and then switching to an SMG on the same platform, you can move the mods from the AR to the SMG. It removes the grind of unlocking every single attachment for each weapon when you want to level them. So if you unlock a grip on a level 1 weapon, it doesn’t need to be unlocked for a later weapon

Infinity Ward also finally revealed what the Vault System is. The first is FJX Cinder, and it unlocks every attachment and allows for equipping any on the M4 platform that shares the same aesthetic. It’s essentially the “ultimate Blueprint” for your favorite weapon platform. Run anything, and all the attachments will match, no matter what.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out on October 28th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Pre-orders gain early access to the campaign on October 20th.
