Code Vein 2

One of the more eagerly awaited Souls-likes this year is Bandai Namco’s Code Vein 2, a follow-up to the 2019 action RPG that takes players on a time-hopping adventure. One such destination they’ll visit is the Sunken City, over 100 years in the past. Together with Josée Anjou, you’ll venture into the Sunken Pylon dungeon to investigate the cause of the ongoing pollution.

In a new walkthrough, the developer showcases the fundamentals of combat, from weapon types like the Halberd and new Dual Blades to Forma, which can unleash defensive and offensive abilities (including ranged attacks). You’ll need Ichor to power that Forma, and that’s where the Jails come in. By pressing or holding R2, you can activate them and drain an enemy, dealing significant damage while recovering Ichor.

Each Jail works differently, whether it’s the Ogre Jail and its two hellhounds that bite at enemies or one that sends out homing bats at range. And while your companion can help out during combat, you can also assimilate them to boost your attack and defenses.

The walkthrough ends against a powerful foe and the source of the Sunken City’s pollution (which Josée is seemingly familiar with). It’s an epic battle with laser beams and stomp attacks, but our heroes prevail.

Code Vein 2 launches on January 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Furthermore, as requested by fans, a character creator demo will become available for free on January 23rd. Not only can you experiment with the game’s in-game tools and transfer these characters to the game at launch, but it’s also possible to explore Magmell Institute, the starting area, to take photos.
